Braves 4, Yankees 3: Andrelton Simmons drove in two runs and Jason Heyward added two hits and an RBI as visiting Atlanta snapped New York’s 10-game winning streak.
Chipper Jones doubled in a run for the Braves, who snapped a three-game slide and won for the second time in the last nine games.
Tim Hudson (5-3) struggled through five innings, issuing five walks and three runs - two earned. Three relievers bridged the gap to Craig Kimbrel, who worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his 20th save.
The Yankees grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second, when Nick Swisher sent a double to deep center to score Mark Teixeira and Raul Ibanez. Swisher was making his return to the starting lineup after suffering a bone bruise on in his left thigh on Saturday and went 2-for-3.
Atlanta got a run back in the third on Simmons’ RBI groundout and took the lead in the fourth. Jones tied it with an RBI double and Simmons struck again two batters later, sending a single to shallow center that scored Freddie Freeman.
Jones was about to score on the play as well, but Heyward was thrown out at third base for the third out, just a step in front of Jones hitting home plate.
The Braves gave the tying run away in the bottom of the frame, committing two errors that allowed a run to cross.
Heyward’s RBI single off Hiroki Kuroda (6-7) in the sixth proved to be the game-winning run.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Yankees RH David Aardsma made his first rehab appearance in his return from Tommy John surgery on Tuesday, tossing a scoreless inning for the Gulf Coast Yankees. … Braves RH Brandon Beachy (elbow) will meet with Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday.
