Kyle Lohse tossed seven-plus solid innings to secure his team-leading 14th win and Lance Berkman homered as the St. Louis Cardinals continued their spirited push toward a postseason berth with a 4-3 triumph over the host Philadelphia Phillies on Monday.
Albert Pujols collected his 96th RBI with a run-scoring double for St. Louis, which won for the 10th time in 12 contests and moved within 2 1/2 games behind Atlanta in the race for the wild card. The Braves lost to the Florida Marlins 6-5 on Monday.
St. Louis set the tone early against Roy Halladay (18-6) as Rafael Furcal doubled to lead off the game. He promptly advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on Nick Punto's RBI groundout.
Two batters later, Berkman belted his 31st homer of the season - and first since Aug. 26. He added an RBI single in the third.
Lohse (14-8) yielded only an RBI single to Carlos Ruiz in the second inning en route to recording his sixth win in seven decisions. He allowed seven hits and struck out five in 7 1/3 innings.
Jimmy Rollins' RBI triple highlighted a two-run ninth, but Octavio Dotel ended the threat by forcing Hunter Pence to ground out to end the game.
Halladay saw his three-game winning streak end after permitting four runs on six hits over eight innings.
