Ethan Thompson's two free throws with 3:32 remaining gave Oregon State the lead, and the Beavers rode a stingy defense down the stretch for a 68-66 victory over visiting Washington State on Saturday in a Pacific-12 Conference game in Corvallis, Ore.
Thompson and Jarod Lucas scored 12 points apiece and Zach Reichle added 11 in a balanced attack for the Beavers (10-7, 6-5), who were coming off a 91-71 home win over Washington on Thursday.
Ryan Rapp was the game's leading scorer with 15 points and DJ Rodman added 14 for the Cougars (11-8, 4-8), who were attempting a road sweep of the Oregon schools after having edged Oregon 74-71 on Thursday.
After trailing for most of the game, Washington State took a 58-55 lead on a layup by Rapp with 4:32 to play.
Reichle got Oregon State within one with a pair of three throws, after which Thompson hit his two that put the Beavers on top for good.
Oregon State stretched its lead to as many as eight before Washington State made a desperation rally in the final seconds.
After going 4:11 without a point, the Cougars got a 3-pointer from Rapp with 21 seconds left to stay alive.
They got as close as 68-66 when Isaac Bonton was fouled on a 3-point attempt and hit his first two free throws with three seconds to go. He intentionally missed the third, but Oregon State's Warith Alatishe snatched his seventh rebound of the game to secure the win.
Thompson shot 6-for-7 on free throws for the Beavers, who won the game at the line, outscoring the visitors 23-10.
Noah Williams and Efe Abogidi had 12 points each for Washington State, which beat Oregon State 59-55 at home in December. Bonton finished with seven points, a game-high eight assists and five rebounds.
