Stanford got 21 points from senior Josh Owens and whipped previously unbeaten Oklahoma State 82-67 in the semifinal of the Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off at Madison Square Garden.
Owens, a 6-foot-8 power forward who was honorable mention All-Pac-10 a year ago, made 10 of 12 shots from the floor as the Cardinal defeated the Cowboys for the first time in three meetings.
Stanford (5-0) also got 17 points from Chasson Randle and 15 points from Aaron Bright.
Oklahoma State (3-1) was led by Le’Bryan Nash with 16 points and Markel Brown with 11. But Jean-Paul Olukemi , who averages 12.7 points, got in early foul trouble and failed to score.
The Cardinal went on a 17-6 run to end the first half with a 46-35 lead and continued to build on that momentum in the second half. Stanford shot 46.8 percent from the floor and made 9 of 19 of its 3-point attempts.
Stanford will meet the winner of the Virginia Tech-Syracuse game in the tournament final on Friday.
