Jazz 109, Rockets 91: Gordon Hayward had 29 points and seven assists as Utah beat visiting Houston for its season-high fourth straight win.
All five starters scored in double figures for the Jazz, who have won seven of their last eight overall. Rodney Hood established a career high for the second straight game, scoring 20 points, and Rudy Gobert finished with a career-high 19 points, 22 rebounds and four blocks for Utah.
Corey Brewer, who scored the final 17 points for the Rockets in their five-point loss Tuesday at the Portland Trail Blazers, scored 25 off the bench for Houston, which has lost three straight for the first time this season. James Harden added 15 points on 3-for-13 from the floor and Terrence Jones finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The night looked like it belonged to Utah right from the start as the Jazz scored the game’s first seven points and took a 22-10 lead on Hayward’s 3-pointer with 3:47 left in the opening quarter. The Rockets pulled within five heading into the second frame and twice got as close as two but Hayward scored six points over the final 2:30 of the first half to push the lead back to 53-43 at the break.
Houston continued to hang within striking distance until a 10-0 run that began just past the midway point of the third quarter ballooned Utah's lead to 77-55. Trevor Ariza's 3-pointer in the final minute of the third pulled the Rockets within 17, but they went scoreless for a two-minute stretch early in the fourth and the Jazz were able to move back out by 21 points and weren't challenged again.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Jazz came in holding their opponents to an NBA-low 83.4 points since the All Star break. ... Houston beat the Jazz by 11 points in the season opener and by 15 on Jan. 10. ... Hayward missed Tuesday’s win against the Knicks with a back injury and was questionable for this game.
