Left-hander Clayton Richard pitched six strong innings to win his fourth consecutive start Friday night, helping the San Diego Padres snap a five-game losing streak with a 6-2 victory over the Giants in San Francisco.

Richard (7-6) combined with five relievers on a five-hitter, snapping the Giants' three-game winning streak in the process.

Cory Spangenberg scored twice, and Eric Hosmer and Manuel Margot each drove in two runs for the Padres, who evened the four-game series 1-1 after taking a 3-0 defeat on Thursday night.

The Padres trailed 1-0 before Spangenberg led off the top of the second with a double. He scored one out later on a double by Margot.

San Diego took the lead for good in the sixth, and again it was Spangenberg who got the uprising going, this time with a one-out single.

Freddy Galvis followed with a single that sent Spangenberg to third, from where the San Diego third baseman scored on a wild pitch by Giants starter Chris Stratton (8-5).

Margot followed with an RBI single that plated Galvis for a 3-1 lead.

The Giants got within 3-2 in the seventh on a two-out, run-scoring single by Pablo Sandoval.

However, San Francisco stranded the potential tying run in scoring position against the San Diego bullpen in both the seventh and eighth innings before the Padres broke the game open with a three-run ninth.

Hosmer's two-out, two-strike, two-run single off Will Smith was the big blow of the ninth, extending the San Diego lead to three runs. Jose Pirela followed with an RBI single that made it 6-2.

Richard allowed two runs and three hits. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.

Stratton gave up three runs (two earned) and nine hits in his six innings. He struck out three and also did not issue a walk.

Hosmer and Travis Jankowski joined Spangenberg and Margot with two hits apiece for the Padres, who had totaled just seven runs during their five-game losing streak.

The Padres out-hit the Giants 12-5.

Gorkys Hernandez had two hits for the Giants, whose previous 13 games had all been decided by three runs or fewer.
