Marlins 3, Pirates 2 (10): Casey McGehee tied the game in the eighth inning with a two-run double and delivered a walk-off sacrifice fly in the 10th as Miami avoided a three-game sweep at home.

After watching its bullpen blow its third save opportunity in as many games in the eighth, Pittsburgh nearly pulled back in front in the 10th when it loaded the bases with no outs against A.J. Ramos (4-0). The right-hander induced Russell Martin to ground into a 5-2-3 double play and struck out Clint Barmes to escape unscathed. Rafael Furcal singled to open the bottom half, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored two batters later on McGehee’s fly to right.

Jared Hughes (3-2) tossed a scoreless ninth after Tony Watson was scored upon for the first time in 22 appearances in the eighth before giving up the tiebreaking run in the 10th. McGehee finished 3-for-4 as the Marlins defeated the Pirates for only the third time in 12 tries and won at home for only the third time in nine games.

After Pittsburgh starting pitcher Vance Worley lined out to begin the third, Gregory Polanco beat out an infield single to second and scored one pitch later when Starling Marte doubled to left. The Pirates struck for another run in the fourth off starter Henderson Alvarez when he put runners on the corners for Josh Harrison, who singled to right to plate Martin.

Worley, who permitted only five hits over seven scoreless innings in his Pirates’ debut, retired nine of the final 10 batters he faced before he gave way to Watson. The Pittsburgh bullpen promptly allowed Miami to stage its third game-tying rally in the eighth inning or later in as many days as Jeff Baker and Furcal singled ahead of McGehee, whose liner to the gap in left-center tied it at 2-2.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Pittsburgh’s starting pitchers posted a 1.63 ERA in this series but did not pick up a victory while the bullpen blew three save opportunities, yet went 2-1 despite recording a 10.61 ERA. … Eleven of Miami’s 15 runs in this series came in the eighth inning or after. … Alvarez allowed two runs and fanned six over seven frames, but saw his ERA over his last five starts increase to 0.81.
