Elvis Andrus and Adrian Beltre drove in runs with back-to-back singles in the eighth inning and visiting Texas edged Seattle.

With the score tied at 1, Carter Capps (0-1) walked Craig Gentry to begin the eighth inning before retiring the next two batters. Capps allowed run-scoring singles to Andrus and Beltre before striking out Nelson Cruz to end the inning.

Joe Ortiz (2-0) earned the win after allowing one hit over two scoreless innings, and Joe Nathan worked a perfect ninth for his fourth save. Texas won despite being outhit 7-5.

Seattle grabbed a one-run lead in the fifth when Kelly Shoppach led off with a ground-rule double and moved to third on Dustin Ackley’s single. Shoppach scored on Jason Bay’s two-out single off Alexi Ogando, who exited after throwing 98 pitches and allowing one run and five hits with five strikeouts over five innings.

Texas rookie Leury Garcia led off the sixth with a single off Joe Saunders for his first major-league hit and scored when Cruz hit into an inning-ending double play. Saunders gave up one unearned run on three hits over seven innings.
