Brewers 7, Mets 6: Jonathan Lucroy homered among two RBIs and Jean Segura drove in a pair as host Milwaukee evened the three-game series with New York.
Logan Schafer added three hits, two runs and one RBI in support of Yovani Gallardo (7-8), who went 2-for-2 with two runs scored while allowing four runs on six hits in six innings. Three relievers bridged the gap to Francisco Rodriguez, who surrendered a solo homer to Marlon Byrd but held the lead for his eighth save.
John Buck homered and drove in three while Daniel Murphy doubled in a run among three hits for the Mets, who have lost three of four. Shaun Marcum (1-10) was knocked around for six runs (five earned) on 11 hits in five innings.
The Brewers jumped on top on Lucroy’s RBI single in the first and pushed the gap to 3-0 with two more in the second. Lucroy blasted an 0-1 cutter out to left for another run in the third and Segura’s single to right plated Gallardo to make it 5-0 in the fourth.
Buck’s homer was upheld upon review in the fifth and his two-run single in the sixth pulled New York to within a run. Milwaukee took advantage of Murphy’s error in the sixth to put another run on the board and added an important insurance run on Schafer’s RBI double in the seventh.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Mets activated SS Ruben Tejada from the 15-day disabled list and optioned him to Triple-A Las Vegas. … New York RHP Matt Harvey and 3B David Wright were announced as members of the NL All-Star team. They will be joined by Segura and Brewers CF Carlos Gomez. … Milwaukee 3B Aramis Ramirez (knee) left the game in the fifth inning. He appeared to hurt himself while making a diving stop on sharp grounder.
