Marlins 5, Mets 1: Jacob Turner dominated in his season debut and host Miami broke through with four runs in the seventh to snap a nine-game losing streak.
Ed Lucas and Jeff Mathis each drove in a run and Jordan Brown doubled in a pair in the seventh for the Marlins, who avoided matching the franchise record for losses in a month. Turner (1-0) allowed five hits in seven scoreless innings.
Shaun Marcum (0-6) matched Turner through the first six innings but could not make it through the seventh and ended up charged with four runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings. Daniel Murphy doubled in a run for New York, which had a five-game winning streak come to an end.
Lucas, who was playing his second major-league game, recorded his first hit with an RBI single to right-center to push across the first run. Mathis followed a walk with a sacrifice fly to center and Brown, who was pinch hitting for Turner, reached for a pitch off the plate and dumped it into the gap in left-center to cap the rally and chase Marcum.
Murphy got a run back for the Mets in the eighth but Marcell Ozuna restored the four-run advantage with an RBI double in the bottom half.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Ozuna went 3-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 16 games. … The Marlins optioned LHP Duane Below to Triple-A New Orleans to make room for Turner. … Mets SS Omar Quintanilla went 2-for-4. He was making his second straight start in place of Ruben Tejada (quadriceps), who was placed on the DL Thursday.
