Braves 4, Mets 1 (10): Chris Johnson launched a three-run homer with two outs in the top of the 10th inning to lift visiting Atlanta to a split of the two-game series in a contest that saw Braves right fielder Jason Heyward suffer a broken jaw.
Andrelton Simmons blooped a two-out single to center off Scott Atchison (3-2) and Freddie Freeman followed with an infield hit on a controversial play at first base before Johnson greeted Greg Burke with a blast to left. New York manager Terry Collins was ejected after the home run for continuing to argue the play that allowed Freeman to reach and the inning to continue.
The homer made a winner of Luis Avilan (5-0), who escaped a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the ninth, and Craig Kimbrel recorded his 40th save for National League East-leading Atlanta, which improved to 20-4 since a loss at the Mets on July 25. Freeman had an RBI single in the sixth and starter Alex Wood allowed a run in six frames for the Braves.
Jonathon Niese yielded a run and struck out nine in seven frames for the Mets, but he hit Heyward with a fastball on the side of the right jaw with two outs in the sixth. Heyward was able to walk off the field and was taken to an area hospital, where it was determined he will likely be sidelined from four to six weeks.
Josh Satin provided the offense for New York with a solo shot in the fourth.
