Ryan Zimmerman plated Michael Morse with a pinch-hit, two-out single in the 10th inning as the Washington Nationals collected their fifth straight road win with a 4-3 triumph over the Philadelphia Phillies in Tuesday's opener of a doubleheader.
Roger Bernadina belted a three-run homer and rookie Steve Lombardozzi doubled his career hit total with a pair of singles for Washington, which improved to 7-8 against National League East champion Philadelphia this season.
With runners on first and second base in the 10th inning, Zimmerman deposited an offering from rookie Michael Stutes (6-2) into shallow center to give the Nationals their eighth win in 11 games.
The hit marked Zimmerman's second game-winner against the Phillies this season. He belted a walk-off grand slam on Aug. 20.
Tom Gorzelanny (4-6) picked up the win after tossing one scoreless inning of relief. Drew Storen promptly served up a leadoff double, but sandwiched an intentional walk around the next three outs to secure his 39th save of the season.
Raul Ibanez belted a three-run homer in the seventh inning and Hunter Pence had a pair of hits before departing with a left ankle injury.
Philadelphia (98-55) has dropped three in a row and remained three wins shy of matching the franchise mark of 101, set in both 1976 and 1977.
