Ryan Dempster threw eight shutout innings and Los Angeles committed three errors as the Cubs beat the Dodgers 3-0 on Tuesday night.
Dempster (3-4) allowed only three hits and one walk while striking out seven to earn the win. Carlos Marmol worked a perfect ninth to get his 10th save in 12 chances.
Derrek Lee provided all the offense for the Cubs, as his RBI single in the sixth scored Ryan Theriot to make it 1-0, then Lee’s two-run home run in the eighth extended the margin to 3-0.
Lee finished the night 3-for-3 with a walk and one run scored. Marlon Byrd also went 2-for-4 for the Cubs.
Russell Martin, Manny Ramirez and Casey Blake were the only Dodgers to record a hit. The lack of offensive support hurt Los Angeles starter Clayton Kershaw (4-3). Kershaw normally struggles with his control but only walked two in six innings. He yielded four hits and stuck out four while giving up one unearned run.
Los Angeles shortstop Rafael Furcal committed two errors and second basemen Blake DeWitt had one as well which led to two of Chicago’s three runs being unearned.
