Casey Blake went 3-for-4 and John Ely won for the third consecutive start as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the visiting Detroit Tigers 6-4 on Saturday.
Blake homered in the second inning and Ely (3-1) allowed two runs and eight hits in six-plus innings as the Dodgers won for the 12th time in 13 games.
Jonathan Broxton converted his ninth consecutive opportunity despite allowing a run in ninth. He struck out Brandon Inge with the tying runners on base for his 10th save of the season.
The Dodgers took a 5-2 lead with a three-run outburst in the fourth inning. James Loney singled in one run and Blake DeWitt tripled in the other two.
Los Angeles increased its lead to four in the next inning when Matt Kemp hit his ninth homer of the season.
Detroit jumped out to a 2-0 first-inning lead when Magglio Ordonez singled in a run and later scored on Brennan Boesch’s infield groundout.
The Dodgers scored in the bottom of the first on Manny Ramirez’s sacrifice fly and tied the game in the second on Blake’s homer.
Boesch had three RBIs for Detroit. He homered in the eighth and had an RBI double in the ninth.
Armando Galarraga (1-1) allowed six runs – five earned – and eight hits in 4 2/3 innings.
