Islanders 5, Blue Jackets 2: Matt Martin scored to ignite his team's three-goal second period as visiting New York improved to 12-2-0 against Metropolitan Division rivals.
Defenseman Brian Strait collected a goal and an assist while Nikolay Kulemin, Anders Lee and Kyle Okposo also tallied for the division-leading Islanders, who improved to 4-2-0 on their seven-game road trip. Ryan Strome and defenseman Thomas Hickey each recorded two assists and Chad Johnson turned aside 16 shots in his first start since Dec. 23.
Nick Foligno and defenseman Jack Johnson scored while Ryan Johansen notched an assist to extend his point streak to a career high-tying 10 games for Columbus, which has dropped two in a row after a 12-2-1 run. Sergei Bobrovsky, who joined teammates Johansen and Foligno on being named to the NHL All-Star roster earlier on Saturday, made 35 saves in falling to 10-3-0 lifetime versus New York.
Strome wired a sharp centering feed from the right faceoff circle into the slot for Martin, who redirected the puck home at 10:04 of the second period to give the Islanders a 2-1 lead. Blue Jackets defenseman Kevin Connauton whiffed on a clearing attempt and Lee benefited from the gift by backhanding the puck past Bobrovsky at 13:37 before Strait added his first of the season less than four minutes later.
Johansen cut into the slot before his shot was denied by the right pad of Johnson, who left a juicy rebound for Foligno to convert - and match a career high - for his team-leading 18th goal at 3:33 of the third period. Okposo ended any chance of a comeback with his ninth goal of the season at 14:54.
GAME NOTEBOOK: New York captain John Tavares also was selected for the All-Star Game prior to the contest. ... Foligno's tally extended his point streak to seven games, although Johansen's goal-scoring run ended at five contests. ... Kulemin deflected D Nick Leddy's shot from the point 31 seconds into the contest before Johnson knotted it up during a power play with a blast from the point at 4:22. ... Blue Jackets RW Jack Skille will miss the next two weeks with a lower-body injury, coach Todd Richards announced prior to the game.
