Lightning 3, Senators 1: Captain Martin St. Louis recorded a pair of goals and Ben Bishop turned aside 33 shots as Tampa Bay outlasted visiting Ottawa.
Valtteri Filppula scored a third-period goal and Ondrej Palat added two assists and nine hits for the Lightning, who snapped a two-game slide. Acquired in trade from Ottawa last season, Bishop has stopped 157 of the 162 shots he has faced over his last five games.
Defenseman Patrick Wiercioch scored a power-play goal for the Senators, who have dropped seven of their last 10 contests. Robin Lehner made 19 saves and lost for the fourth time in five decisions.
Palat’s pass from behind the net found a wide-open St. Louis, who stopped the puck with his right skate before flipping it inside the right post 16:45 into the contest for a 1-0 lead. Wiercioch forged a tie on the power play 6:11 into the middle session with a turnaround shot from the slot after Kyle Turris' faceoff win.
St. Louis put Tampa Bay back in front with 6:41 left in the second, causing a turnover and zipping to the net to slide Palat’s pass low to Lehner’s glove side. Filppula scored his 10th of the season with 9:04 remaining in the third to double the lead, beating Lehner from the right faceoff circle on a two-on-one rush.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Lightning D Victor Hedman (lower body) left the game in the first period and D Keith Aulie (fractured hand) was lost in the second. Both did not return and the latter will require surgery on Friday. … Ottawa D Erik Karlsson had two shots on goal in a team-high 24:17. … Tampa Bay D Matt Taormina made his season debut as the Lightning dressed seven blue liners while RW Richard Panik was a healthy scratch.
