Blackhawks 5, Oilers 4: Marcus Kruger and defenseman Duncan Keith scored 1:55 midway through the third period as host Chicago overcame some sloppy play to win for the sixth time in seven games.
Brandon Saad had a goal and an assist to snap a five-game point drought while Andrew Shaw and Bryan Bickell also tallied for the Blackhawks, who have scored at least four times in each of their last six victories. Blue-liner Brent Seabrook notched two assists and Corey Crawford made 19 saves.
Nail Yakupov scored his first goal in six games for the Oilers, who finished their four-game road trip with three straight losses. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, David Perron and Jordan Eberle also tallied and Devan Dubnyk stopped 31 shots while Sam Gagner failed to convert a penalty-shot attempt early in the second period after being held from behind by Seabrook.
Kruger was left alone in front of Dubnyk and tucked the puck around the tall netminder to give the Blackhawks a 4-3 lead with 8:16 remaining, and Keith snapped a 21-game goalless drought when he fired a weak shot through traffic during a power play for a 5-3 lead. Eberle scored a short-handed goal with 1:28 remaining, but Chicago pinned the puck deep in Edmonton’s zone to run out the clock.
Saad batted a bouncing puck in the slot past Dubnyk to open the scoring with 1:37 remaining in the first period. Shaw redirected a hard pass from Saad by Dubnyk with 2:42 left in the second to tie it at 2-2, but Bickell put Chicago ahead 5 1/2 minutes into the third by burying a rebound on the doorstep. Perron restored the tie with a power-play goal 2:25 later.
