Senators 4, Bruins 2: Rookie Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored to snap a tie with 3:34 remaining in the third period as visiting Ottawa secured the No. 7 seed to set up a first-round playoff matchup with Northeast Division champion Montreal.
Eric Condra tallied to end a 28-game goalless drought and defenseman Jared Cowen scored for the first time since March 4, 2012. Robin Lehner turned aside 34 shots in his first appearance since April 11 for the Senators, who posted their sixth win in nine games and prevented Boston from clinching the division title and securing the No. 2 seed. Ottawa open its series with the Canadiens at the Bell Centre on Thursday.
Rich Peverley scored a power-play goal with four seconds left in the second period and defenseman Dennis Seidenberg tallied 14 seconds into the third. Tuukka Rask finished with 18 saves for the fourth-seeded Bruins, who fell for the seventh time in nine contests (2-5-2) to set up a first-round matchup with fellow Original Six-rival Toronto. Game 1 is Wednesday at TD Garden.
Playing in his ninth NHL game, Pageau provided the difference following a fortunate bounce. Defenseman Marc Methot's shot from just inside the blue line deflected off traffic in front of Rask, allowing Pageau to collect the loose puck on the doorstep and wire it into the open net. Kyle Turris scored an empty-net goal with 37 seconds remaining to seal the victory.
After Cowen's one-timer gave Ottawa a 2-0 lead midway through the second period, former Senators defenseman Wade Redden absorbed a hit from Methot before setting up Peverley's tally from the right circle. Seidenberg forged a tie with a snap shot from the top of the right circle early in the third.
