LIGHTNING 3, JETS 2 (OT): Steven Stamkos scored his NHL-record fifth overtime goal just 45 seconds into the extra session as Tampa Bay defeated visiting Winnipeg.
Stamkos accepted a pass from defenseman Brian Lee and hammered a one-timer past goaltender Ondrej Pavelec from the left circle for his league-leading 56th goal.
Ryan Malone scored his second goal of the game to tie it for the Lightning at the 7:25 mark of the third period, sweeping in a rebound on the power play.
Both teams were eliminated from playoff contention after Washington’s shootout victory over Montreal on Saturday.
Sebastien Caron, who was making his first start in the NHL since November 2006 with Chicago, turned aside 26 shots.
Malone opened the scoring after retrieving a loose puck, flipping it over defenseman Grant Clitsome in the neutral zone and scored on a breakaway at 15:37.
Winnipeg took the lead with a pair of goals in the second period.
Antti Miettinen, alone in front, knocked home a pass from Evander Kane at 6:20 and Kyle Wellwood popped in a rebound at 9:28.
