Phoenix buried three goals in the first period and Ilya Bryzgalov made 43 saves as the Coyotes hung on for a 4-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings Thursday.

Lauri Korpikoski scored shorthanded on an unassisted goal at the 11:56 mark of the first period to put Phoenix up 3-0 and then added an empty-netter with 58 seconds left to seal the win.

Radim Vrbata got the Coyotes going with a goal seven minutes into the first from Petr Prucha. Keith Yandle added another on the power play less than two minutes later.

The Red Wings came back in the second on a Johan Franzen power play marker from Jiri Hudler and Niklas Lidstrom. Detroit got another from Tomas Holmstrom on a Henrik Zetterberg assist 3:56 into the third period to pull the Red Wings within one.

Phoenix outshot Detroit 15-11 in the first but the Red Wings came back with 17 shots in the second and another 17 more in the third. Detroit ended up outshooting Phoenix, 45-36.

Chris Osgood made 33 saves for Detroit.
