Darrel Williams scored from a yard out with 20 seconds left, his second touchdown of the game, and the Kansas City Chiefs remained unbeaten with a wild 34-30 win over the host Detroit Lions on Sunday.
That score capped a 13-play, 79-yard drive, highlighted by Patrick Mahomes' 15-yard run on fourth-and-8. Mahomes passed for 315 yards but no touchdowns. LeSean McCoy gained 56 yards on 11 carries with a score, while Bashaud Breeland returned a fumble 100 yards for a third-quarter TD.
Travis Kelce added seven receptions for 85 yards for the Chiefs (4-0).
Matthew Stafford threw for 291 yards and three touchdowns for Detroit (2-1-1). Kenny Golladay caught five passes for 67 yards and two touchdowns. Kerryon Johnson gained 125 yards on 26 carries but also lost the fumble that led to Breeland's score.
The Lions drove 68 yards on their first possession, but settled for Matt Prater's 25-yard field goal.
Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker missed a 36-yard field goal try on Kansas City's opening drive.
Stafford's 5-yard touchdown pass to tight end T.J. Hockenson, who later left with a concussion, completed a 74-yard drive later in the quarter for a 10-0 lead.
Butker made a 23-yard field goal in the first minute of the second quarter. The Chiefs tied the game on McCoy's 1-yard run, capping a 70-yard drive. Prater (48-yarder) and Butker (44-yarder) traded field goals before halftime for a 13-all tie.
Stafford fumbled away the ball deep in Chiefs territory early in the third after an apparent touchdown pass to Golladay was reversed upon review.
After a Kansas City turnover, the Lions had a first-and-goal at the Chiefs 1-yard line. Johnson fumbled, and Breeland scooped it and returned it for a touchdown while many of the Lions thought the play was over.
Prater's 53-yard field goal midway through the quarter cut the Chiefs' lead to 20-16.
After a Sammy Watkins fumble gave Detroit the ball, Golladay made a 9-yard scoring catch to give Detroit the lead.
Williams scored from 1 yard out with 12:09 left to give Kansas City a 27-23 lead. That capped a 75-yard drive.
A 34-yard pass from Stafford to Marvin Hall set up a 6-yard touchdown pass from Stafford to Golladay with 2:31 remaining.
