A big second-half surge propelled Texas Tech to a 90-71 victory over Eastern Kentucky on Saturday at United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, Texas.
Shadell Millinghaus had 20 points and six rebounds for Texas Tech (3-0), which extended its nonconference home winning streak to 22 games. Justin Gray and Aaron Ross finished with 16 points apiece. Anthony Livingston had 11 points and six rebounds.
Asante Gist scored 21 points for Eastern Kentucky (1-3), which has lost three in a row. Jaylen Babb-Harrison scored 14 points. Zach Charles had 13 points and seven rebounds, and Nick Mayo also scored 13 points.
Eastern Kentucky took an early lead on a 3-pointer by Babb-Harrison. That basket sparked a 13-2 run that put the Colonels up 16-5 less than four minutes into the opening half.
The Colonels extended their lead to 15 points on a jumper by Gist, but the Red Raiders responded with a 15-0 run to tie the game on a layup by Millinghaus.
Texas Tech took a 39-38 lead on a 3-pointer by Ross and carried a 46-41 advantage into the break.
The Red Raiders went up by eight early in the second half, but the Colonels battled back to cut the deficit to one on a jumper by Mayo.
Eastern Kentucky tied the game on a basket by Dillon Avare, but Texas Tech staged a 14-0 run to take a 71-57 lead with barely under eight minutes remaining.
Texas Tech led by as many as 19 points late the game.
The Red Raiders shot 59.2 percent from the field, made 7 of 11 from 3-point range and converted 25 of 30 free throws. They also amassed a 29-20 rebounding advantage.
The Colonels made 12 of 25 shots from beyond the arc but shot only 36.8 percent overall.
