Eastern Conference 163, Western Conference 155: Kyrie Irving had 31 points and 14 assists to earn MVP honors while Carmelo Anthony added 30 points as the East rallied to upend the West in New Orleans in the highest-scoring NBA All-Star Game in history.

Anthony set a record with eight 3-pointers to lead the East comeback against a West side that put up a record 89 first-half points. LeBron James had 22 points, Paul George added 18 and John Wall - Saturday's Slam Dunk Contest Champion - added 12 in a reserve role as the East won for the first time since 2010 while setting a record for points.

Kevin Durant and Blake Griffin led all scorers with 38 points apiece for the West. Kevin Love had 13 points while Stephen Curry chipped in with 12 points and 11 assists, and Chris Paul tacked on 11 points and 13 helpers.

James stood tallest amid a dizzying array of early dunks from both teams, racking up eight points and three steals as the East broke out to a 21-13 lead. Griffin made himself heard a short time later, throwing down three jams in quick succession - including a vicious windmill slam that prompted a loud gasp from the sold-out crowd - as part of a seven-dunk, 18-point quarter that gave the West a 44-42 edge.

The West frontcourt stole the show in the second quarter, getting 12 straight points from Dwight Howard, LaMarcus Aldridge and Anthony Davis to fend off the East and retain a slim lead. Davis wowed the hometown fans with back-to-back dunks off Chris Paul feeds, and Durant knocked down two long 3-pointers in the final 4:09 of the half to help send the West into the break with an 89-76 advantage.

Durant and Griffin continued their back-and-forth in the second half as Durant knocked down two 3-pointers and added a dunk while Griffin poured in 10 points of his own to keep the West up by double digits. James Harden and Love nailed consecutive 3s to put the West up by 18, but the East countered with a 16-0 run fueled by George and Joe Johnson 3-pointers, and entered the fourth down 126-123.

The teams traded leads through the opening half of the final quarter as both sides ratcheted up the defensive intensity. The East surged ahead after George was fouled on a 3-point attempt and made all three free throws, while Anthony's 3-pointer with 1:04 remaining iced it.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hall of Fame PG Magic Johnson led the crowd in a boisterous rendition of "Happy Birthday" between the first and second quarters in honor of ex-Boston Celtics great Bill Russell, who turned 80 on Sunday. ... The teams combined for 24 first-half dunks. ... Anthony's 3-point barrage broke the old record of six held jointly by Mark Price and James. ... Griffin's 19 field made goals surpassed the old All-Star mark of 17 shared by Wilt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan and Kevin Garnett.
