Taylor Widener pitched 4 1/3 effective innings in his return from the injured list and Eduardo Escobar hit a two-run home run as the Arizona Diamondbacks earned a 5-2 victory over the host Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday.

Arizona ended a nine-game losing streak at Dodger Stadium.

Widener gave up one run on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts in his first start since May 23, when he left early due to a right groin injury. Brett de Geus (1-0) recorded two outs on four pitches to earn his first career victory, and Joakim Soria pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his third save.

The last-place Diamondbacks have now won the opener in their third consecutive series and have taken three of their past four games overall. They entered having lost 28 of their previous 29 road games.

AJ Pollock hit a home run for Los Angeles and David Price pitched three scoreless innings in his longest outing of the season. The Dodgers are considering using Price as a regular starter in the second half.

A sloppy Dodgers defense had two more errors Friday to give it 13 over the past eight games. Los Angeles has dropped four of its past five games, having just dropped three of four at Miami.

The Diamondbacks put six runners on base against Price in the first three innings, including the bases loaded in the first, but failed to score. Pollock then gave the Dodgers a 1-0 lead with a home run to center field in the third, his 10th of the season and fifth in his past 12 games.

Escobar gave Arizona a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning on a home run to right field off Dodgers left-hander Darien Nunez (0-1), who was making his major league debut. One of the runs was unearned after a fielding error by Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner.

Arizona made it 3-1 in the seventh on an RBI single from David Peralta just beyond second base bag with the bases loaded. The scoring threat was extended after a fielding error by Dodgers first baseman Max Muncy.

The Dodgers cut the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI groundout from Mookie Betts.

Arizona's Daulton Varsho and Josh Reddick drew back-to-back, bases-loaded walks in the ninth for a 5-2 advantage.
