The Cincinnati Reds combined five hits and a suicide squeeze to score six runs in the fourth inning as they came from behind to beat the visiting Chicago White Sox 7-4 on Wednesday.
The Reds, who won two out of three games in the series, have won four of five and 16 of their past 22. The White Sox have lost five of their past seven.
The White Sox jumped to a 3-0 lead with a pair of home runs against right-hander Sal Romano, a two-run shot to center field by Yoan Moncada in the third, and a 432-foot solo shot to right-center by Daniel Palka in the fourth inning.
The Reds began the home fourth looking for their first baserunner against White Sox starter Dylan Covey, but the right-hander didn't survive the inning.
Scooter Gennett, who entered leading the National League in hitting at .332, singled in one run, his 57th RBI. Jesse Winker and Jose Peraza each singled in two runs, and Romano dropped down a suicide squeeze bunt to make it a 6-3 game.
In 3 2/3 innings, Covey (3-4) was charged with six runs on five hits and one walk. He struck out two.
The White Sox added a run in the fifth against Romano when Yolmer Sanchez's double scored Cincinnati native Adam Engel, who led off the inning with a single.
Romano (5-8) was pulled after five innings and 95 pitches, having given up four runs on six hits. He didn't walk anybody and struck out six.
Three Reds pitchers shut out the White Sox over the final four innings. Jared Hughes escaped unscathed in the eighth inning when center fielder Billy Hamilton threw out Jose Abreu trying to score from a second on a single by pinch hitter Leury Garcia.
Hughes worked the final 1 2/3 innings for his sixth save.
Four White Sox relievers allowed just one unearned run in 4 1/3 innings while striking out six.
Palka's home run was his 10th of the season and third in two games, while Moncada hit his 11th. Engel finished with two of Chicago's nine hits.
Joey Votto, Eugenio Suarez and Winker each had two hits for the Reds, who had eight overall. Suarez scored twice.
