Nationals 5, Phillies 3: Tyler Moore homered and Adam LaRoche singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning as visiting Washington rallied from an early deficit to beat Philadelphia in the opener of a three-game series.

Washington trailed 3-2 before sending nine batters to the plate and scoring three runs in the eighth on five straight hits. Anthony Rendon tied the game with an RBI single off Mike Adams (1-1) and Jayson Werth followed with a single before Jake Diekman replaced Adams and allowed LaRoche’s RBI single and Ian Desmond’s run-scoring double.

Jerry Blevins (2-1) recorded two outs in the seventh and earned the win in relief of Stephen Strasburg, who allowed three unearned runs while striking out five over six frames. Rafael Soriano worked around a leadoff walk in the ninth for his sixth save to cap the Nationals’ third straight win and ninth come-from-behind victory this season.

Marlon Byrd put the Phillies ahead in the first inning with a three-run homer into the right-field seats after Werth dropped a foul ball earlier in the at-bat. Washington chipped away with Moore’s leadoff homer in the third and Denard Span’s RBI groundout in the fifth against Cliff Lee, who allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits over seven innings.

The Phillies had two runners on with no outs in the eighth before Tyler Clippard induced a Ryan Howard pop-up and struck out Byrd and Domonic Brown to end the threat. Brown is hitless in his last 12 at-bats for the Phillies, who have lost eight of their last 10 games against the Nationals.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The benches cleared in the fifth inning after Span grounded out to second base and objected to something said by Lee on his way back to the dugout.
