Cardinals 7, Brewers 6: Matt Holliday belted a go-ahead solo homer with two outs in the ninth inning as visiting St. Louis overcame an early six-run deficit to stun reeling Milwaukee.
Matt Adams and Jhonny Peralta each belted a two-run homer and Kolten Wong also went deep for the Cardinals, who have won seven of 10 to move within one game of the National League Central-leading Brewers. Peralta and Holliday finished with three hits apiece - with the latter scoring three runs to boot.
St. Louis recorded two quick outs against Francisco Rodriguez (3-3) in the ninth inning before Holliday jumped on a first-pitch changeup and sent it over the wall in left field for his sixth homer - and first since June 15. Pat Neshek (4-0) tossed 1 1/3 innings to pick up the win and Trevor Rosenthal struck out a pair to secure his 28th save.
Scooter Gennett ripped a two-run triple and Khris Davis clubbed a two-run double for Milwaukee, which jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second before dropping a season-high sixth in a row and 10th in 11 outings. Gennett finished with three hits and Ryan Braun added an RBI triple in the loss.
After the Brewers jumped on the returning Joe Kelly for three-run innings in both the first and second, the Cardinals flexed their muscle to chip away at the deficit. Adams crushed a two-run homer in the fourth off Yovani Gallardo, Wong added a solo shot in the sixth and Peralta launched a two-run blast before Allen Craig scored on Oscar Taveras' force to tie the contest at 6-6.
GAME NOTEBOOK: With St. Louis' Yadier Molina (thumb) sidelined 8-12 weeks, Milwaukee C Jonathan Lucroy will start for the National League in the All-Star Game. ... Davis drilled a 3-2 slider into left-center field to plate Gennett and Lucroy to give the Brewers a 3-0 advantage in the first inning. Gennett kept the pressure on in the second, sending a 3-2 curveball down the right-field line to plate a pair before coasting home on Braun's triple. ... Kelly permitted six runs on seven hits in three innings in his return after being sidelined for nearly three months with a strained hamstring.
