Giants 9, Dodgers 0: Brandon Crawford and Travis Ishikawa each homered and drove in three runs while Madison Bumgarner threw seven shutout innings as San Francisco opened the key divisional series with a rout of visiting Los Angeles.
Bumgarner (18-9) moved into a tie for the major league lead in wins while limiting the Dodgers to three hits and two walks with nine strikeouts. Crawford went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored while Ishikawa belted a pinch-hit three-run homer for the Giants, who won their fourth straight and moved within one game of Los Angeles in the National League West.
The Giants batted around in the first and scored four times against Hyun-Jin Ryu (14-7), who was pulled before the second frame due to left shoulder irritation. Matt Kemp went 0-for-4 and had his 16-game hitting streak come to an end for the Dodgers, who were held to three hits.
Crawford capped the Giants’ first-inning outburst with a run-scoring double before adding a two-run homer in the fifth off Carlos Frias. San Francisco drew clear in the seventh on Ishikawa’s three-run homer into McCovey Cove off Kevin Correia.
Bumgarner retired his final seven batters in order and improved to 11-4 with a 2.36 ERA in 16 career starts against the Dodgers. Buster Posey and Joaquin Arias each went 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored for San Francisco, which won its 10th in a row at home.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Bumgarner reached 200 strikeouts for the first time in his career after recording 191, 191 and 199 over the last three seasons. … Crawford’s home run was his third at home this season and first since May 14. … The Dodgers purchased the contract of LHP Scott Elbert from Triple-A Albuquerque and designated RHP Red Patterson for assignment.
