Nationals 8, Dodgers 5 (14): Adam LaRoche belted a two-run homer in the ninth, a two-run single in the 12th and plated the go-ahead run in the 14th after beating out a potential inning-ending double play as visiting Washington rallied to win the rubber match of the three-game series.

Ian Desmond, who reached on a throwing error by shortstop Justin Turner, scored after LaRoche beat the relay throw to first base to give the Nationals a 6-5 advantage in the final frame. LaRoche, who had been held out of the starting lineup the last two contests with a balky back, recorded five RBIs after entering the game as a pinch hitter in the ninth.

Asdrubal Cabrera followed with a mammoth two-run homer into the bullpen off Kevin Correia (7-16) to provide some insurance for Washington, which remained seven games ahead of second-place Atlanta in the National League East. Blake Treinen (2-3), who stranded a runner at third to end the 13th, secured the win by retiring the side in the 14th.

Carl Crawford forged a 5-5 tie with two outs in the 12th inning, belting a two-run homer off Tyler Clippard for the Dodgers, who remained two games ahead of second-place San Francisco in the NL West. Turner also launched a two-run homer and his fly ball with two outs in the ninth was dropped by Jayson Werth in the right-field corner, allowing Andre Ethier to score and tie the game at 3-3.

After umpires deemed that an inside fastball from Jordan Zimmermann did not hit graze his uniform, Turner snapped a scoreless draw in the seventh by belting his fifth homer to center to give Los Angeles a 2-0 lead. Washington answered in the ninth as LaRoche launched his 20th homer before Span's single to right plated pinch-runner Danny Espinosa to give the Nationals a 3-2 advantage.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Los Angeles manager Don Mattingly told MLB.com that he doesn't expect RHP Josh Beckett to pitch again this season. Beckett has been sidelined since Aug. 8 with a torn labrum and two cysts on his left hip. ... Werth, who singled twice and reached base four times, will face his former team when the Nationals open a three-game series versus visiting Philadelphia on Friday. ... Rookie Carlos Frias scattered three hits over six scoreless innings in his first major-league start for the Dodgers, who wrap up a six-game homestand with a three-game set against Arizona on Friday.
