Padres 4, White Sox 2: Will Venable recorded a pair of doubles while matching a career high with four hits and drove in two runs, and Tyson Ross pitched six solid innings as visiting San Diego made it two straight over Chicago.

Rene Rivera delivered two doubles and an RBI while Alexi Amarista also drove in a run for the Padres, who improved to 2-7-1 in 10 road series this season. Ross (6-4) yielded two runs (one earned) and five hits before Huston Street worked around a two-out walk in the ninth to earn his 17th save in 17 chances.

Dayan Viciedo registered two hits and drove in a run while Alexei Ramirez also had two hits for the White Sox, who fell to 5-4 on their 10-game homestand after issuing seven walks. Andre Rienzo (4-2) lost his second straight start after allowing three runs and seven hits in 3 1/3 innings.

San Diego seized a 2-0 lead in the second when Yonder Alonso led off with a walk and scored on Venable's double. Venable moved to third on the throw to the plate, but was caught in a rundown after Cameron Maybin grounded back to Rienzo before Rivera's double plated pinch-runner Chris Denorfia.

The Padres loaded the bases with none out in the third and after Alonso struck out, Venable delivered an RBI single to make it 3-1, but a potentially big inning was halted when Carlos Quentin was thrown out trying to score behind Seth Smith. Amarista lifted a sacrifice fly in the sixth to score Venable and put San Diego ahead 4-2.
