Angels 6, Yankees 2: Erick Aybar homered and drove in two runs to back 6 1/3 solid innings by Tommy Hanson as host Los Angeles sent New York to its fifth consecutive loss.
Albert Pujols hit a pair of run-scoring singles and Howie Kendrick went 3-for-3 with an RBI to lift the Angels to their third straight victory. Hanson (4-2) struck out a season-high eight and gave up two runs on five hits.
Brett Gardner had an RBI triple and scored in a two-run third inning for the Yankees, who have totaled only 12 runs during their season high-tying skid. David Phelps (4-4) was charged with four runs on nine hits in six-plus innings.
After the Yankees scored twice in the third for a 2-1 lead, Pujols hit an RBI single in the bottom of the inning and Aybar put the Angels ahead to stay with a run-scoring base hit in the sixth.
Los Angeles added insurance in the seventh, when Josh Hamilton doubled home a run and Kendrick drew a bases-loaded walk off Shawn Kelley. Pujols singled home another run in the eighth to extend the lead to 6-2.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira left the game in the fourth inning with a right wrist injury. Teixeira, who missed the first 53 games of the year while recovering from a torn sheath in the tendon of his wrist, is scheduled to be examined Sunday in New York. ... Kendrick had his fourth consecutive multi-hit performance and boosted his batting average to .336. ... Pujols extended his hitting streak to six games with his third straight multi-hit effort.
