Dodgers 8, Angels 7: Adrian Gonzalez went 4-for-4 with four runs scored as host Los Angeles won the first of four straight games between the Southern California neighbors.
Juan Uribe went 3-for 3 after entering the game in the fifth inning and Scott Van Slyke added two doubles and two RBIs as the Dodgers rallied from an early five-run deficit. Ronald Belisario (3-4) earned the victory in relief and Brandon League notched his 11th save after starter Zack Greinke allowed six runs (four earned) and 10 hits in four innings.
Howie Kendrick had three hits and two RBIs and Albert Pujols contributed three hits and scored twice for the Angels, who had their eight-game winning streak halted. Los Angeles starter C.J. Wilson couldn’t take advantage of the early run support and departed after allowing six runs and nine hits in 4 2/3 innings.
Jerry Hairston Jr., who came off the 15-day disabled list to start in left field, laced a two-out RBI single to right in the seventh off Angels reliever Robert Coello (1-1) to give the Dodgers an 8-7 lead. Gonzalez started the rally with a one-out single to left, his fourth hit of the game, and scored the go-ahead run.
The Dodgers trailed 6-1 heading into their half of the fourth, got a run back that inning on a sacrifice fly and plated four more in the fifth to tie the score at 6. Another sacrifice fly in the sixth gave the Dodgers a 7-6 lead, but the Angels came back to tie the score in the seventh on an RBI single by Kendrick.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The teams combined for 11 doubles, a Dodger Stadium record. … The Dodgers sent SS Dee Gordon down to Triple-A Albuquerque to make room for Hairston. Gordon had two hits in his last 29 at-bats - dropping his average from .265 to .175 - with no stolen bases in that span. … Greinke’s last two starts came against the teams he played for last season, the Angels and Milwaukee Brewers, and he allowed 11 runs (nine earned) and 19 hits in eight innings of those appearances.
