Tigers 7, Astros 3 (14): Don Kelly drove in the go-ahead run in a four-run uprising in the 14th as visiting Detroit outlasted Houston.
Austin Jackson led off the 14th with a ground-rule double and moved to third on a groundout before the Astros elected to intentionally walk both Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder. Kelly followed by pushing a grounder through the right side before Matt Tuiasosopo doubled in a pair and Jhonny Peralta capped the rally with a sacrifice fly.
Houston's Dallas Keuchel (0-1) pitched four scoreless innings of relief before surrendering the go-ahead run. Luke Putkonen (1-0) made his season debut and worked 2 1/3 hitless innings of relief to earn the win.
The Astros grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Jason Castro got the green light on a 3-0 count and drove a fastball the opposite way into the Crawford boxes in left. Detroit got those runs back with two runs in the third on RBI singles by Torii Hunter and Cabrera.
Carlos Pena used the long ball to put Houston back in front by taking Rick Porcello the opposite way in the fourth, and the Tigers knotted it again in the eighth. Victor Martinez sent a line drive into the corner in right that got between Rick Ankiel’s legs and allowed Prince Fielder to motor all the way around from first.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Astros recalled Keuchel along with starter Jordan Lyles and sent RHPs Brad Peacock and Rhiner Cruz to the minors. … Lyles allowed two runs and six hits in five innings while Porcello was reached for three runs and five hits in seven innings for Detroit. … Cabrera went 2-for-5 and has multiple hits in seven of the last 10 games.
