Reds 4, Marlins 0: Shin-Soo Choo was 4-for-5 with a pair of solo homers and Mike Leake pitched 6 2/3 solid innings as visiting Cincinnati won its season-high fifth straight game.
Leake (3-2) scattered nine hits and walked only one while striking out six to earn his second victory in the last three starts. Brandon Phillips and Joey Votto each contributed a pair of hits and an RBI for the Reds, who have won nine of their last 11 contests.
Rookie Derek Dietrich, Greg Dobbs and Rob Brantly each recorded two hits for Miami, which has dropped four straight and seven of its last eight. Alex Sanabia (2-6) allowed four runs on nine hits over the first six innings for the Marlins, losing his fifth consecutive start.
The Reds left seven on base in the first three innings, squeezing across one run on Phillips’ RBI double in the opening frame. Choo belted a one-out homer over the left-field wall and Votto made it 3-0 by serving an RBI single over shortstop to score Cesar Izturis in the fourth.
Choo added his ninth homer of the season in the sixth with two outs, lifting a 3-2 pitch from Sanabia just over the right-field fence. Choo is 12-for-21 with seven walks and 10 runs scored in six games against Miami this season.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Reds are 13-1 when Votto records two or more hits in 2013. … Marlins reliever Ryan Webb had his streak of 10 1/3 innings without allowing a hit snapped when Votto singled off him to lead off the seventh. … Cincinnati RHP Johnny Cueto allowed three hits and no runs in five innings for Class-A Dayton during his second rehab start Tuesday. Cueto has been on the disabled list since April 15 with a strained right lat.
