Pirates 4, Braves 2: Clint Barmes had a pair of RBI singles to back a solid effort by the Pittsburgh bullpen in a third straight victory over visiting Atlanta.
Five Pirates relievers combined to throw six scoreless innings, yielding four hits and striking out eight. Justin Wilson (1-0), who got B.J. Upton to ground into an inning-ending double play in the sixth, got the win and Jason Grilli earned his seventh save in as many chances.
Kris Medlen (1-2) gave up three runs on seven hits in six innings for the Braves, who were 13-2 before dropping the final three games of the four-game series.
Gerald Laird and Andrelton Simmons had RBI singles in the top of the second to stake Medlen to an early 2-0 lead, but the Pirates tied it in the bottom half on an RBI double by Russell Martin and Barmes' first run-scoring single. Barmes singled in Neil Walker with two outs in the sixth to provide the go-ahead run and Travis Snider scored from third on a wild pitch in the seventh.
Pittsburgh issued seven walks but was aided by three double plays. Pirates starter Jonathan Sanchez issued three of those free passes and gave up two runs in three innings.
