Rangers 7, Red Sox 0:
Derek Holland worked eight strong innings and Adrian Beltre went 4-for-5 with three RBIs as Texas handed visiting Boston a rare loss.

Ian Kinsler and Mitch Moreland each had three of the Rangers’ 18 hits while Elvis Andrus and Nelson Cruz recorded two hits and an RBI apiece. That was plenty of support for Holland (2-2), who struck out nine and yielded six hits.

Felix Doubront (3-1) was not nearly as sharp for the Red Sox, surrendering six runs and 12 hits in 3 2/3 innings. Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits for Boston, which lost for the second time in nine games.

Craig Gentry got things started with an RBI single in the second and Texas finally cashed in on their wealth of base runners in the fourth. Andrus ripped a two-out RBI single to left and Lance Berkman walked to load the bases for Beltre, who ended Doubront’s night with a bases-clearing double to left-center.

Kinsler capped the scoring with an RBI double to center in the fifth and former Red Sox right-hander Derek Lowe finished it off in the ninth inning.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Boston RF Shane Victorino (back) returned from a seven-game absence and went 1-for-4. … Red Sox 1B Mike Napoli, who went to the World Series with the Rangers twice before signing with Boston in the off-season as a free agent, got a nice welcome from the fans and went 0-for-4. … Beltre entered the night hitting .215 and was 4-for-31 over his previous eight games.
