Cubs 4, Diamondbacks 2: Rookie Junior Lake went 4-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs while Dioner Navarro added a solo blast as visiting Chicago held off Arizona.

Chris Rusin (1-0) allowed two runs on two hits over five-plus innings in place of scheduled starter Matt Garza, who was traded to the Texas Rangers earlier in the day. Kevin Gregg worked the ninth to earn his 19th save as the Cubs ended a modest two-game slide.

Tyler Skaggs (2-2) was reached for three runs and seven hits in six innings as the Diamondbacks slipped into second place in the National League West, one-half game behind the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Navarro got the Cubs on the board in the second, when he turned on a 2-1 fastball from Skaggs and belted it into the stands in left-center. Lake got a 2-0 fastball from Skaggs with a man on in the fifth and drilled it into the second level in left-center, above the 413-foot sign for his first career homer.

The Cubs lifted Rusin after a double and a walk to open the sixth, and Blake Parker surrendered a sacrifice fly by Martin Prado and Paul Goldschmidt’s RBI single to trim the deficit to 3-2. Arizona left the bases loaded in the seventh and stranded Goldschmidt on third in the eighth before Lake’s RBI single in the ninth provided some insurance.
