Marlins 2, Diamondbacks 1: Rookie Marcell Ozuna delivered a two-run double and Ricky Nolasco struck out a season-high 11 batters in eight solid innings as host Miami ended a seven-game losing streak.
Nolasco (3-5) surrendered one run and five hits to snap a personal three-game losing skid. He retired 14 consecutive batters until Didi Gregorius ended his afternoon by leading off the ninth with a double.
A sacrifice fly by Jason Kubel off Steve Cishek for the second out in the ninth broke up the shutout. Eric Chavez had a pinch-hit single, Martin Prado walked and reliever Mike Dunn walked Miguel Montero before retiring A.J. Pollock on a grounder for his second career save as Arizona’s four-game winning streak came to an end.
Adeiny Hechavarria singled against Wade Miley (3-3) in the sixth and advanced to third on a two-out single by Derek Dietrich. Ozuna slammed a pitch off the fence in left-center field to easily plate both runners.
Nolasco gave up four singles in the first three innings – two to Gregorius – before dominating the Diamondbacks over a five-inning span. Miley allowed two runs and five hits in six innings, striking out six and walking one.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Nolasco improved to 6-2 in nine career starts against Arizona. … The Diamondbacks avoided being shut out for the first time. They are the lone team in the majors not to be blanked. … Miami scored four runs in the three-game series and has just 117 all season.
