Orioles 3, Red Sox 2: Matt Wieters drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning as visiting Baltimore drew closer in the wild-card race at the expense of Boston.

Red Sox closer Koji Uehara (4-1) had his franchise record of 37 straight batters retired broken in the ninth, when Danny Valencia led off with a triple to center field. Wieters followed with a sacrifice fly and Jim Johnson worked a scoreless ninth to pick up his 46th save and make a winner of reliever Tommy Hunter (6-4).

Chris Davis set the franchise mark with his 51st home run and Brian Roberts plated a run with a groundout for the Orioles, who are two games behind both Tampa Bay and Texas for an American League wild-card spot. Boston's magic number to clinch the AL East dropped to three after the Rays lost to the Rangers.

Dustin Pedroia led off the bottom of the first and launched a 3-1 cutter from Scott Feldman over the “Green Monster” seats in left for a quick 1-0 lead. Xander Bogaerts lifted a sacrifice fly in the fourth before Baltimore got on the board in the fifth Roberts’ RBI groundout.

Davis surpassed Brady Anderson for Baltimore's single-season home run record in the sixth with a blast to straightaway center that forged a 2-2 tie. The Orioles put runners on second and third with no outs in the eighth but could not get the go-ahead run across against left-hander Craig Breslow.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Boston starter Ryan Dempster allowed two runs on three hits and four walks in six innings, while Feldman was charged with two runs (one earned) on two hits and six walks in five frames. … Baltimore, which is on pace to set a record for fewest errors in a season, committed three miscues in the contest to bring its season total to 46. … Boston CF Jacoby Ellsbury (broken foot) is working in the pool and weight room but has yet to begin baseball activities. He is still on track to return before the end of the regular season.
