Cubs 4, Astros 1: Dave Sappelt had three RBIs and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch as visiting Chicago matched a season high with its fourth straight win.
Sappelt had a run-scoring double in the second and a two-run double in the seventh as the Cubs snapped a five-game losing streak at Minute Maid Park.
Chris Volstad (3-10) allowed one run and four hits in five innings to win for the third time in four starts. Five Chicago relievers combined to blank the Astros on two hits, with Carlos Marmol striking out two in the ninth for his 19th save in 21 opportunities.
Sappelt’s second-inning double into the left-field corner gave Chicago a 1-0 lead. The Astros tied it in the fourth, when Justin Maxwell tripled and scored on a single to right by Jason Castro.
Sappelt was on third base in the sixth when Astros reliever Fernando Rodriguez (1-10) threw a wild pitch that Castro couldn’t glove. The following inning, Sappelt smacked a two-run double off the left-center field wall to drive in Starlin Castro and Welington Castillo.
Astros starter Dallas Keuchel gave up one run and six hits in four innings.
