Carlos Beltran came within a double of hitting for the cycle and the host San Francisco Giants snapped the Arizona Diamondbacks’ season-high nine-game winning streak with a 6-2 victory on Friday.
The Giants moved within five games of the National League West-leading Diamondbacks with 24 games left for both teams, including five against each other.
Beltran, who went 4-for-4 and hit his second home run since joining the Giants, is 14-for-28 with five RBIs in seven games against Arizona this season.
Matt Cain (11-9) gave up two runs and five hits over eight innings, and Santiago Casilla worked a scoreless ninth inning for his third save.
With the Giants leading 4-2 in the seventh, Cody Ross extended the lead with a two-run homer to left field off Sam Demel.
Arizona starter Joe Saunders (9-12) allowed four runs, six hits and four walks over 5 1/3 innings as the Diamondbacks fell to 6-15 in Saunders’ last 21 road starts.
