Cardinals 24, Eagles 20: Carson Palmer fired the decisive 75-yard touchdown pass to rookie John Brown with under two minutes left in the fourth quarter and visiting Philadelphia nearly won at the buzzer before falling to Arizona in a thriller between two of the NFC's top teams.
After the Cardinals (6-1) went ahead with 1:21 remaining, the Eagles (5-2) drove deep into Arizona territory and had three shots at the end zone - the final one coming when Foles found Jordan Matthews just inches outside of the end zone on the final play of the game. Foles set an Eagles record with 36 completions in 62 attempts as he passed for 411 yards with two touchdowns - both to Jeremy Maclin (season highs of 12 catches for 187 yards) - and two interceptions.
Palmer went 20-of-42 for 329 yards with two TDs and Larry Fitzgerald finished with seven catches for a season-high 160 yards and a touchdown for Arizona, which has won three straight games. Brown totaled 119 yards on five catches - both career highs - while Andre Ellington contributed 71 rushing yards and a score.
With the game tied at 17, LeSean McCoy (21 carries, 83 yards) spearheaded a crisp 78-yard drive that stalled at the 2-yard line, forcing the Eagles to settle for Cody Parkey's 20-yard field goal with 1:56 to go. Just 35 seconds later, Palmer threw a bomb to Brown, who made a superb over-the-shoulder catch and sprinted to the end zone to put the hosts ahead for good.
Maclin took a quick screen and ran down the right sideline for a 21-yard touchdown late in the first quarter, but Arizona drew even on Ellington's 1-yard plunge 1:15 into the second and went ahead 53 seconds into the third on Fitzgerald's 80-yard catch-and-run. Philadelphia regained the lead behind Parkey's 54-yard field goal and Foles' perfectly thrown 54-yard strike to Maclin, giving the visitors a 17-14 edge with 2:22 left in the third.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Midway through the second quarter, Maclin and Arizona CB Patrick Peterson were involved in a nasty collision that left both players shaken. Peterson remained down for several minutes and did not return due to a concussion. Maclin, who reportedly was bleeding from his ear, walked to the locker room and came back later in the half. ... Eagles LB DeMeco Ryans made a nice pass breakup in the end zone on third down, forcing the Cardinals to settle for Chandler Catanzaro's 28-yard, game-tying field goal with 9:01 remaining in the contest. The successful kick was the 16th in a row to start the season for Catanzaro, who eclipsed the NFL rookie record set in 2012 by St. Louis' Greg Zuerlein. ... The teams combined for 21 penalties for 198 yards.
