Drew Brees heated up in the fourth quarter and hit Marques Colston for a pair of touchdown passes, rallying the New Orleans Saints past the Tennessee Titans for a 22-17 road win Sunday at LP Field.
The Saints (10-3) trailed 10-9 entering the fourth quarter, but Brees and Colston connected for touchdown passes of 35 and 28 yards to help New Orleans move within one win or one Atlanta loss of clinching the NFC South title. The Saints wrapped up a playoff berth when Chicago lost at Denver.
Brees was 36 of 47 for 337 yards and the two scores, extending two impressive streaks. He has thrown at least one touchdown pass in 40 consecutive games, the second-longest streak in NFL history behind Johnny Unitas' 47. Brees has also completed at least 20 passes in 33 consecutive games.
Even after the Saints took a 22-10 lead, rookie quarter Jake Locker nearly led the Titans (7-6) back. He hit Nate Washington for a 40-yard touchdown, then drove Tennessee into Saints territory twice but couldn't produce points.
The Titans drove inside the Saints' 25 before Locker was stopped on a quarterback sneak on fourth-and-1, and they reached the Saints' 5-yard line with seven seconds left before an incomplete pass and a sack sealed it.
Locker replaced starter Matt Hasselbeck (calf) early in the second quarter. The rookie passed for 282 yards and a touchdown and added a team-high 36 yards and a 6-yard touchdown on the ground.
Washington had six catches for 130 yards and a touchdown for the Titans, giving him a reception in 59 consecutive games. Washington has 798 receiving yards, surpassing his career high set last season.
The Saints improved to 50-6 under Sean Payton when leading at halftime.
