Plaxico Burress recorded his second three-touchdown game of his career as the New York Jets scored 17 unanswered points to rally for a 27-21 home triumph over the San Diego Chargers on Sunday.
With just 14 catches entering the contest, Burress had touchdown grabs of 3, 4 and 3 yards as New York (4-3) snapped the three-game winning streak of San Diego (4-2). The Jets started the season with a 4-0 home mark for the first time in franchise history.
In the fourth quarter, Darrelle Revis intercepted Philip Rivers and returned the ball 64 yards. Burress capped the ensuing five-play drive with a touchdown reception in the back of the end zone.
Prior to the game, Burress had just 14 catches during his first season since being incarcerated for 20 months. He had four catches for 25 yards on Sunday.
Shonn Greene rushed for 112 yards and Mark Sanchez completed just 18 of 33 passes for 173 yards as New York won its second straight game.
Chargers tight end Antonio Gates returned after missing three games with a foot injury and reeled in his 70th career touchdown pass. The 2-yard scoring reception early in the second quarter allowed Gates to join Tony Gonzalez of the Atlanta Falcons as the only tight ends in history with at least 70 scores.
Donald Butler stripped tight end Dustin Keller and raced 37 yards for a touchdown and Mike Tolbert rushed for a 1-yard score to give San Diego a 21-10 lead at the half.
