Steven Crowl scored 18 points and Johnny Davis and Brad Davison each had 15 as host Wisconsin rolled past in-state rival Green Bay 72-34 in a non-conference men's basketball game Friday night in Madison.
Wisconsin (2-0) rolled to a 39-15 halftime lead and cruised the rest of the way. The Badgers host Providence (2-0) on Monday in the Gavitt Tipoff Games, which matches teams from the Big Ten and Big East.
Green Bay (0-2) made just 12-of 51-shots for 23.5 percent. Cem Kirciman and Tutu Majok led the Phoenix with five points apiece. The Badgers have won 11 straight in the series since an 88-84 overtime loss at Green Bay in 2009.
Crowl, a 7-foot sophomore, was 7-of-11 from the field, including 2-of-4 from beyond the arc, and had seven rebounds in 22 minutes. Crowl, who totaled just eight points in 12 games last season, had 11 points and eight rebounds in Wisconsin's 81-58 season-opening victory over St. Francis.
The Badgers had a 32-12 advantage in points in the paint and a 50-31 advantage on the boards, including 18 offensive rebounds for 25 second-chance points. Wisconsin was just 5-of-21 from 3-point range.
Crowl scored Wisconsin's first five points of the second half on a layup and a 3-pointer to trigger an 11-2 run as the Badger pushed the lead to 50-17.
The Phoenix withstood an early 10-point Wisconsin run to stay close, pulling within 12-10 on a 3-pointer by Kirciman.
Crowl scored consecutive baskets in the paint, then stepped back to hit the Badgers first 3-pointer after five misses, to key an 11-point run as Wisconsin went up 23-10.
During that run, Wisconsin held Green Bay scoreless for more than six minutes until Donovan Ivory's 3-pointer with 6:15 left in the half.
Former Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan, father of Green Bay coach Will Ryan, was honored at halftime. Bo Ryan is the winningest coach in Wisconsin history, posting a 364-130 record in 14-plus seasons with 14 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances and back-to-back Final Four trips.
