Sophomore R.J. Davis connected on a pair of 3-pointers in the final two minutes in a career-best 26-point performance as No. 19 North Carolina pulled out a back-and-forth matchup with visiting Brown, winning 94-87 on Friday night in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Davis was 9-for-17 from the field, including 6-for-9 on 3s.

Armando Bacot added 22 points for the Tar Heels (2-0), who were playing the second game under first-year coach Hubert Davis.

Brown (1-1) was up 77-75 with 7:14 remaining.

Dan Friday finished with 21 points and Nana Owusu-Anane had 20 points for the Bears. Paxson Wojcik, the son of former North Carolina assistant coach Doug Wojcik, chipped in with 14 points for Brown.

Brady Manek had 14 points and Caleb Love added 13 points for the Tar Heels. Bacot, who grabbed 10 rebounds, made 10 of 11 shots from the field.

Davis had six of North Carolina's nine successful 3-pointers. He also had a team-high six assists.

Brown's Kino Lilly Jr. drained a 3-pointer at the 3-minute mark to close the gap to 85-82. A minute later, the Bears had a chance to tie, but the Tar Heels ended up converting at the other end on Davis' 3.

But Friday matched that for the Bears to make it 88-85. Then it was Davis again with a 3-pointer.

The Tar Heels outscored Brown by 21-6 on free throws.

The Bears shot 60 percent from the field and led 50-47 at halftime, aided by an 11-0 run during the half. The Tar Heels, who trailed by seven late in the first half, hit at a 56.3-percent clip in the opening half.

Brown, which was charged with just one turnover in the first half, made eight of its first 10 shots from the field and the score was tied at 19-19.
