The Kentucky Wildcats' dark season got darker Wednesday night when they were beaten 63-62 by the Georgia Bulldogs at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens.
The game boiled down to the final three seconds. With the Wildcats (4-9, 3-3 Southeastern Conference) up 62-61, the Bulldogs (9-4, 2-4) put the ball into play under the basket. P.J. Horne bobbled the inbound pass, gathered it and put it in for the game-winner with 1.3 seconds left.
Keion Brooks Jr.'s heave from beyond half court didn't reach the basket as time expired.
Georgia had won its first seven games of the year -- all of which came in nonconference games -- but had struggled in the SEC. The Bulldogs got their first and only conference win when they beat Ole Miss on the road on Saturday.
The loss was the third straight for the Wildcats.
Georgia was led in scoring by Andrew Garcia's 16 points. He added six rebounds.
Sahvir Wheeler chipped in with 10 points and seven assists.
Georgia's K.D. Johnson, playing in his third game after getting certified by the NCAA last week, had another good night after scoring 21 and 14 in his first two games. He had 10 points and five boards against the Cats.
The Wildcats were led by Brandon Boston Jr., who had 18 points and seven rebounds. Brooks and Isaiah Jackson had 12 each.
Kentucky coach John Calipari adjusted his starting lineup for the seventh time this season in hopes of getting increased scoring from a team that entered the game scoring just 67.4 points per game.
It didn't work. The Cats shot 42 percent from the floor and went 1-for-13 from 3-point range.
Kentucky was seeking its 15th straight win over the Bulldogs.
Georgia went on a 10-0 run with just over seven minutes left in the first half to go up by nine, but the Cats came back with a 10-4 run and headed into intermission down 30-27.
Keying the Wildcat run was Boston Jr., who had 12 points and four rebounds in the half. Garcia led Georgia with eight.
Georgia will next face Florida in Athens on Saturday evening. Kentucky will host LSU.
