CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- When Kyle Guy knocked down a wide-open corner 3-pointer to put Virginia up by one point with 10 seconds to play, Florida State's Dwayne Bacon knew he made a big mistake on the defensive end.

What ensued allowed Bacon to redeem himself in a huge way for the Seminoles.

Bacon dropped in 26 of his game-high 29 points in the second half, including the game-winning 3-pointer with two seconds left, to lift No. 20 Florida State to a 60-58 road upset over No. 12 Virginia on Saturday afternoon.

"I knew I had to make up for it after Kyle Guy made that shot," Bacon said. "I didn't get all the way out on him on his shot so when I got the ball after that, I knew I had to make a play and I did."

After missing on two straight free throws late in the second half, Bacon's strong second half continued as the carom came right to him, allowing him to knock down a jump shot, tying the game at 51.

"He's a special player," Virginia head coach Tony Bennett said of Bacon. "That shot he hit at the end of the game was pretty contested and tough, and he just pulled up."

Virginia (11-2, 1-1 ACC) led by as many as nine points in the second half before Bacon took over for the Seminoles (14-1, 2-0). The sophomore extended his double-digit scoring streak to 24 games and connected on six of his nine three-point attempts.

"Virginia is probably one of the most difficult teams for us to prepare for," Florida State head coach Leonard Hamilton said. "They are so disciplined and they do such a great job of executing their offense. They control the tempo of the game and kept us from doing a lot of things that we wanted to do."

Guy's late 3-pointer gave him a team-high 14 points as he led four Cavaliers in double figures. Guards Devon Hall, London Perrantes and Marial Shayok all chipped in with 10 points apiece.

"I told our guys that we always talk about quality and there were stretches of quality basketball for us but I don't know what the right word is for it," Bennett added. "I don't want to say we didn't deserve that game but when you turn the ball over, you can't always get bailed out. We lacked the ability to do the little things."

Virginia turned the ball over an uncharacteristically 13 times while shooting 45 percent from the floor. The Cavaliers did knock down nine 3-pointers.

Florida State shot just 41 percent for the game but knocked down eight 3-pointers.

After Florida State jumped out to an early 10-2 lead, Virginia used a 28-13 run to close out the half and led 30-23 at the halftime break.

The Seminoles shot just 33 percent in the first half with Xavier Rathan-Mayes leading the way with 10 points. Florida State held the edge at the free-throw line, making 7 of 12 attempts, while Virginia failed to attempt a free throw in the half.

The Cavaliers didn't get their first points of the game until the 16:10 mark, when Devon Hall sank a jump shot from just inside the 3-point line.

Hall scored six first-half points while Guy led the way with nine. Virginia shot 46 percent in the half and connected on 6 of 10 shots from beyond the arc.

NOTES: Virginia entered the game ranked first nationally in scoring defense (47.7 points per game)... The Cavaliers had won five of the last six meetings between the two teams... Coming into the game, Florida State led the nation in field goal shooting percentage (51 percent).
