Pittsburgh 64, South Florida 44: Dante Taylor scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Panthers to an ugly home win over the Bulls.
Tray Woodall tallied a team-high 14 points for Pittsburgh (22-7, 10-6 Big East), which won its second straight game. The Panthers have a pair of games remaining on their regular-season schedule - a home game against Villanova and a visit to DePaul - with a shot at a two-day bye still alive.
Victor Rudd led South Florida (10-17, 1-14) with 16 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. The Bulls have lost ten straight games.
Pittsburgh shook off a sluggish 7-of-26 start from the field, staying in the game thanks to a hot start at the free throw line. The Panthers shot 11-of-14 from the charity stripe to take a 26-25 lead into halftime.
South Florida held a 14-6 advantage 7:23 into the first half but fell victim to several extended stretches by Pittsburgh. After yielding the lead for the first time with 6:35 to play before intermission, the Bulls briefly regained control after the break before 16 unanswered points from the Panthers gave them the lead for good.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Pittsburgh leads the all-time series 6-5, rebounding from consecutive losses to the Bulls last season. ... South Florida, which averaged 52.6 points in conference action entering Wednesday, remains on pace to set the all-time low for scoring average in Big East play, previously held by Miami (55.6) in 1991-92. ... The Panthers have reached double-digit wins in conference play for the 11th time in the last 12 seasons.
