No. 22 Georgetown 67, St. John's 51: Otto Porter Jr. scored 13 of his 19 points in the first half and finished with 14 rebounds as the visiting Hoyas posted their first Big East victory.
Markel Starks had 17 points and Nate Lubick added 11 and six rebounds for Georgetown (11-3, 1-2 Big East), which prevented its first 0-3 start to conference play since the 1999-2000 season.
Jamal Branch scored 16 points off the bench and JaKarr Sampson had 12 before fouling out for St. John's (9-7, 1-3), which fell to the Hoyas for the fourth straight time.
After Branch's layup brought the Red Storm to within five at 13-8, Porter drained a pair of jumpers to ignite a 14-0 run. Starks drilled a 3-pointer and Aaron Bowen capped the surge with another to silence the crowd at Madison Square Garden.
Georgetown kept up its defensive intensity and the lead ballooned to 23 at 45-22 after Porter converted a three-point play.
GAME NOTEBOOK: St. John's F-C Chris Obekpa had six blocks to push his season total to 82. The freshman entered the game tied with Walter Berry for the school record. ... Georgetown sophomore F Greg Whittington did not play due to a violation of team rules, coach John Thompson announced prior to the contest. ... The Red Storm didn't do themselves any favors from 3-point range. They missed their first 12 attempts before Branch connected with 2:13 remaining in the game.
